The Artwork of D.J. Lanzendorfer

THE METZGAR SERIES

Dr. Frank Metzgar

The Metzgar Series is based on the photographs of Doctor Frank Metzgar, who married D.J. Lanzendorfer's grandmother. In the 1940s and 1950s, the two traveled throughout Mexico, the west and southwest, where Dr. Metzgar documented the people living in those regions. At that time the cultures had not yet been influenced from outside sources. From Native Americans, to Mexicans, to the last of the cowboys, Dr. Metzgar documented these cultures through his photographs, and preserved a way of life that, in some cases, no longer exists.
Now, more than a half century later, D.J. Lanzendorfer brings these photographs to the canvas. Each piece of art is steeped in history, and has its own unique story.
